PEP and PrEP
Post-exposure prophylaxis, often referred to as PeP, can be taken within 72 hours of exposure to HIV and may prevent infection.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, often referred to as PrEP, can be taken by HIV-negative people who are at risk of contracting HIV, to prevent infection.
Both can be discussed with your GP, HIV specialist doctor or at a sexual health clinic.

Reporting HIV Stigma or Discrimination
You can report any instances of HIV stigma or discrimination that have occurred in any Newcastle Hospital site or service, by using our HIV Stigma or Discrimination Incident Form.
This may have happened to you directly, or to a loved one, or it may be something you have witnessed as a bystander, or which has effected a member of staff.
This information will help Newcastle Hospitals HIV Confident Champion, Annie Laverty, Chief Experience Officer, and her team in Patient and Staff Experience, to understand where and why stigma is taking place and to take action to ensure it doesn’t happen to others.
