Miss Pabla is a Consultant Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon with a specialist interest in Paediatric ENT conditions at the Great North Children’s and Freeman Hospital.
Biography
Miss Pabla graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 2007, having completed an intercalated degree in Physiological Sciences during the time at medical school. She completed her basic surgical training in the West Midlands, gaining a broad surgical experience, and then progressed to higher surgical training in Otolaryngology in the North East of England. During this time, as a specialist registrar, she developed a keen interest in paediatric ENT and medical education, providing trainee representation on the regional ENT surgical training committee and nationally on the British Association of Paediatric Otolaryngologists (BAPO) Committee. She completed a Diploma in Medical Education from Newcastle University in 2018.
Following completion of specialist training in Otolaryngology, Miss Pabla was appointed as a Locum Paediatric ENT Consultant at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool managing both general and complex paediatric ENT conditions, including the provision of a regular paediatric Down’s Syndrome clinic. After this, she went on to complete a 1-year specialist paediatric fellowship at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
Miss Pabla was appointed to the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2020 and works predominantly at the Great North Children’s and Freeman Hospitals where she has continued to provide management of both general and specialist paediatric ENT conditions. She also provides ENT clinic services closer to home for patients living in the North Tyneside and Cramlington areas.
She is part of the paediatric airway multidisciplinary team specialising in paediatric airway conditions and emergency paediatric airway management. She is the ENT Consultant lead within the Newcastle Cleft service working closely within the cleft multidisciplinary team providing hearing surgery for children born with a cleft palate. Miss Pabla has a keen interest in the management of drooling in children and sees paediatric patients for consideration of salivary gland surgery to manage excessive drooling.
Miss Pabla continues a role in medical education by providing educational training and supervision for trainee surgeons on the ENT North East specialty training programme and teaches on both regional and nationally organised programmes. She currently oversees Newcastle University medical student activity within the ENT department as well as participating in mentoring schemes to promote women in surgery.
