Audrey Tapang at the Newcastle Hospitals has been announced as the deserving winner of Overseas Nurse of the Year category Sponsored by OET at the Nursing Times Workforce Summit & Awards 2022.
On Tuesday 22 November, Nursing Times brought together over 700 professionals from across the health and care community at the Hilton London Metropole.
Finalists and members of the nursing community attended a glittering awards ceremony covering 17 categories recognising organisations going above and beyond to recruit and retain their nursing workforce. There were deserving winners from organisations across the UK.
Following a rigorous judging process, inspirational nurse and clinical educator Audrey Tapang was named the winner of the Overseas Nurse of the Year Award celebrating the immense success of her senior clinical educator role welcoming new nurses from overseas.
Audrey relocated from the Philippines to pursue a new start in life with the Newcastle Hospitals in 2015 and began her nursing career in cardiothoracic intensive care.
Since taking on the role of clinical educator to support regular intakes of fellow international nurses through the OSCE preparation process Audrey has more than met the challenge, welcoming and supporting scores of nurses who have made the life-changing decision to move overseas, choosing Newcastle as their new home.

“Great pastoral care”
The judges praised Audrey recognising that in just 7 years since joining the Newcastle Hospitals working in cardiothoracic intensive care she has been promoted twice to Clinical Educator and then Senior Nurse leading International Nursing Recruitment for the Trust.
They particularly noted: “Great pastoral care and shares her work with other Trusts who make contact for advice.”
