Maternity survey

Maternity services across Newcastle Hospitals have been rated as 'better than' other services, when it comes to staff caring for mothers and babies.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) carries out regular independent surveys, seeking mothers’ feedback about various points of their journey with maternity services.

For the latest survey, questionnaires were sent out between May and August 2024, and responses were received from 182 people who received maternity care from our staff. Our maternity teams – who oversee the safe delivery of over 6,500 babies every year.

Antenatal support

‘Somewhat better’ than other for asking about mental health at antenatal check-ups.

Labour and birth
  • ‘Better’ than others at giving appropriate advice and support at the start of labour and doing everything to help manage pain during labour and birth.
  • ‘Somewhat better’ in how well our midwives and doctors worked together

Postnatal care

‘Somewhat better’ than others at providing help and advice after birth about feeding their baby and respecting their decision on how to feed their baby.
