Dr Caroline Grayson is a Consultant Paediatrician at Newcastle’s Great North Children’s Hospital specialising in Forensic Paediatric Medicine, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME and teaching and training in all aspects of safeguarding.
Dr Grayson is the Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children for the Newcastle and Gateshead areas.
She studied Medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, graduating in 1993 and has specialised in Paediatrics since 1994. Having completed her Community Paediatric training in Northumberland, Dr Grayson was appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician in 2006.
Since joining the Newcastle Hospitals, Dr Grayson has taken a lead role in the safeguarding of children and was the Named Doctor for Child Protection for over 12 years.
She has been the Designated Doctor for Safeguarding Children for Newcastle Gateshead Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) since 2018 providing advice and support at a strategic level to Safeguarding Partners and supervision for the Named Doctor within the Trust.
She attends the Committee and Subcommittee meetings of the Safeguarding Partnership in Newcastle providing a paediatrician’s perspective on the citywide children’s safeguarding agenda, and also the Clinical Lead for the Paediatric Forensic Network based in the Children and Young People’s clinic at the Great North Children’s Hospital.
This service provides assessments for children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault. Dr Grayson provides day time clinic cover as well as out of hours as part of this Network.
In addition she holds clinics for children with genital conditions as well as providing community paediatric care for children with a range of conditions including children with developmental difficulties in the Child Development Centre and Children’s Outpatients
