Dr Halliday is a research active Paediatric Solid Tumour Oncologist with a particular passion for improving outcomes for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with sarcoma. Dr Halliday’s interest in sarcoma and TYA care developed during her Paediatric Oncology training in Newcastle upon Tyne, alongside which she completed laboratory-based research testing new drugs in neuroblastoma as part of a Masters in Clinical Research. These interests were further invigorated by her Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children and Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto.
Since returning to the NHS in 2016 to take up her Consultant post at the Great North Children’s Hospital Dr Halliday has established an active role in research as lead investigator on a range of clinical trials, working collaboratively with Dr Campbell-Hewson, Consultant Paediatric Oncologist, to expand and strengthen Newcastle’s solid tumour service and clinical trial portfolio. She has gained further sarcoma expertise in her role as core member of both the North of England Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma MDT and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) National Sarcoma Advisory Panel.
Dr Halliday is the TYA lead for Newcastle’s Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) and a member of both the Innovate Therapies in Childhood and Adolescent Cancer solid tumor committee and the EURO EWING Consortium New EWing Therapeutics Strategy Group. In these roles she works alongside like-minded colleagues from across Europe to bring new treatments rapidly into carefully designed clinical trial testing that is accessible to as many young people with solid tumours as is possible.
