Dr Ifti Haq is a Consultant Cardiologist at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital where he specialises in primary and secondary prevention of coronary disease including risk factor modification:
- stable angina (Clinical Lead for Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic);
- management of acute coronary syndromes;
- cardiac nuclear medicine (Clinical Lead at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI);
- medical education.
Dr Haq went to Manchester University Medical School, and subsequently underwent specialised cardiology training in Nottingham and Sheffield. He was appointed to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle in May 2001.
He was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine in 2001 for work on preventing coronary events with statins. I am currently conducting a large research project in collaboration with Oxford looking at the effects of increasing HDL (‘good cholesterol’).
Dr Haq is Clinical Lead for the Trust’s education team with an interest in quality and patient safety.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, and member of the British Cardiovascular and British Nuclear Cardiology Societies.
