Dr Louise Macdougall qualified from the Newcastle University in 2006 having trained in hospitals throughout the North East and Cumbria. She took up her consultant post at the Freeman Hospital in 2019.
As an NHS hepatologist, Dr Macdougall specialises in all aspects of liver disease but particularly hepatocellular cancer (liver cancer) and liver transplantation. She also performs both upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy.
Teaching
Dr Macdougall also has an interest in medical education holding a postgraduate degree in this field, and the certificate of clinical education. She is the department lead for education and Royal College of Physician tutor for the Freeman Hospital.
Research
Dr Macdougall has contributed to a variety of liver research projects but has a particular interest in hepatocellular cancer research.
