The national Hospice UK award was bestowed for collaborative Combined Supportive Care Service which is a partnership between the Newcastle Hospitals and St Oswald’s Hospice.
The service is led by Jenny Welford, Specialist Occupational Therapist at Newcastle Hospitals and Dr Felicity Dewhurst, Palliative Care Doctor at St Oswald’s Hospice.
They have joined forces to offer patients living with lung cancer or mesothelioma personalised care, support and treatment when they need it most running weekly clinics at St Oswald’s Hospice’s Focus on Living Centre.
Of receiving the award Jenny said: “Newcastle Hospitals joined forces with St Oswald’s Hospice to create the Combined Supportive Care Service for patients with lung cancer or mesothelioma.
“It is a privilege to offer personalised care and support to those facing a non-curative diagnosis.
“Felicity and I are thrilled to accept this award and would like to thank each and every person who has supported our vision”.
