The Health Technology Assessment team, based within Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering at the Freeman Hospital, has been involved in the national programme of medical device assessment for over 40 years. We have expertise in the analysis of healthcare data, a research portfolio covering a wide range of clinical specialties, and we develop and deliver specialist training.
We support NICE’s health technologies evaluation programme, as the Newcastle External Assessment Group (EAG). We are one of five EAGs funded by NICE to provide independent assessment of the clinical evidence for health technologies, and associated analysis of the economic impact of technology adoption in the NHS to support national guidance development.
To support our EAG role we bring in additional literature searching, systematic review, meta-analysis, health economics and horizon scanning skills from Newcastle University. London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Teesside University.
