Once a doctor has assessed your referral, you may be asked to come to the Freeman Hospital.
At this appointment a specialist will clinically assess you.
The doctor will inspect the area under suspicion. If they are concerned with the inspection, the next steps may happen.
They may send you for a scan, which may also include a quick needle biopsy which can take up to an hour.
In some circumstances you may be asked to return to hospital to have an MRI/CT scan in the next few days.
Once all the clinical information has been gathered and discussed at the multidisciplinary team meeting, we will give you the results of the relevant tests and what they mean for you.
They may mean you need further treatment with the Sarcoma Service, referral to another service, or there are no concerning features and you can be discharged.
If you need further treatment from the Sarcoma Service, you will be assigned a Key Worker who will be available to discuss any concerns about your further treatment.
