Amanda Waite

Amanda Waite is a Digital Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Digital Health Team

Hello, my name is Amanda Waite and I am a Digital Health Nurse Specialist within the Trust’s Digital Health Team.

My role involves working collaboratively with clinical and operational teams to support new ways of working, identify opportunities to streamline digital processes, reduce documentation burden and improve information sharing. I am also aligned to the digital education projects, helping to support delivery of our wider digital programme.

I am particularly passionate about digital education and supporting colleagues to build confidence in using digital systems. I began my journey in Digital Health as a Digital Education Nurse and continue to have a strong interest in helping staff develop the knowledge and skills they need to make the most of digital technology.

Over the past two years, I have focused on developing my knowledge of digital transformation, clinical systems, change management and digital education. I enjoy working with a wide range of teams across the Trust, building relationships, understanding challenges and working together to find practical solutions. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is seeing how digital improvements can make life easier for staff while enhancing the experience of patients.

My journey into digital health

I qualified as a nurse in 2008 and began my career on Ward 47 Plastics at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, where I spent 11 years developing my clinical skills and experience. During this time, I also completed a secondment as a Specialist Breast Reconstruction Nurse.

After starting a family, I moved into the Plastics Outpatient Trauma Clinic, which provided a better work-life balance while allowing me to continue developing my clinical knowledge. I later undertook a secondment as Plastics and Dermatology Clinical Educator, followed by a secondment as Senior Sister in Dermatology Outpatients.

My first introduction to Digital Health came while working as a Clinical Educator, supporting the rollout of closed loop blood management. Through this work, I saw first-hand how digital technology could improve safety, streamline care and support staff in their daily practice. The experience sparked my interest in digital transformation and encouraged me to explore opportunities within the Digital Health Team.

I joined the team as a Digital Education Project Nurse, helping to develop and deliver the Trust’s digital education strategy. After a year in that role, I successfully applied for my current position as a Nurse Specialist in Digital Health. While my responsibilities have broadened, I continue to support digital education initiatives and remain passionate about helping staff develop efficient and consistent ways of working.

What motivates me most is the opportunity to contribute to projects that improve patient experience, reduce administrative burden and support staff to deliver the best possible care. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to learn, which makes the role both rewarding and exciting.

As we continue to develop digital healthcare, I believe it is important that services are designed to be accessible, inclusive and easy to use for all patients. For staff, successful digital transformation depends on involving clinical teams in the design process and focusing on solutions that reduce administrative burden, allowing more time for direct patient care.
